INTERACTIVE LECTURES
A level Biology is highly content heavy, therefore, the majority of lessons will be in the form of interactive lectures. Thus, students are eased into the teaching and learning styles required for Higher Education institutions. Tutors often allow their students access to their teaching slides in advance, so students may print them out and add on it during lectures. Tutors will also take questions during lectures and facilitate discussions wherever relevant.
CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
Tutors may conduct activities to aid students' learning and understanding. Examples include running dictation, molecule role-play, storytelling and many more.
GROUP PRESENTATION
Topics which are full of factual information, such as Infectious Diseases and Biodiversity and Conservation, provide opportunities to expose students to research and group work. There, tutors may schedule sessions for student group presentations, allowing students to hone their teamwork and oral presentation skills.
PRACTICAL LESSONS
Once a week, students often spend an afternoon class doing practical laboratory work. The nature of practical lessons vary from chemical analysis (e.g. food test), dissections, microscopy and many more.
Some elaborate experiments may require students to attend sessions 30 min earlier, during their lunch break. |

EXAMINATION SKILLS WORKSHOP
Comprehension, writing, thinking and analytical skills are among the skills vital for obtaining a decent grade in CIE Biology examination. From time to time, tutors share strategies for improving said skills and also discuss answering techniques for AS and A Level Biology questions. Students should expect to participate in discussions so as to make these sessions more fruitful.
TOPICAL TESTS
To familiarise students with the format of formal A level examinations, they will sit for a closed book and timed topical test at the end of each topic. Tests will be marked and graded as per Cambridge standards, allowing students to see their progress.
FIELD TRIP
Once a year, we take a limited number of students to attend the Kuala Belalong Field Research Centre, Temburong, for a 4 days 3 nights field study. Students will experience first-hand how field research is carried out and they will also be working towards a group project of their choice, with the supervision of UBD lecturers and scientists.
